An Easy Stop Snoring Exercise

One of the reasons that people snore has to do with the physical structure of their mouths and throats. Usually, we breathe through our noses but once asleep and deeply relaxed, the mouth opens and that causes snoring. If you snore, it really isn't your fault but that is little comfort to the people you keep awake at night.

There are devices you can buy that help keep your mouth closed so you can't breathe through your mouth at night and snore. Those can be a little uncomfortable and may not be the best option if you can stop your snoring another way. Did you know there is a stop snoring exercise that might help?

The snoring sound is created by various structures vibrating in your mouth and throat. One of those is the soft palate. When the muscles in the soft palate become too flaccid, they vibrate when air passes over them when you breathe through your mouth. The vibrations are heard as snoring. Swollen tonsils and adenoids can also contribute to snoring because these cause your airway to become narrower than usual and this causes a vibration noise when you breathe. Your tongue can also cause snoring if it is attached in such a way that vibrations are created when you breathe.

A stop snoring exercise helps to strengthen these problem areas in your mouth and throat so the muscles don't vibrate so easily. This can reduce or even eliminate snoring. Actually, the voice exercises that professional singers use work very well to eliminate snoring. Simply sing "la la la" very loudly holding each note for three seconds. Practice this stop snoring exercise at least five times each day and it will help the muscles in your throat and soft palate become stronger.

To make your tongue stronger, stretch it out as far as you can by trying to touch your chin with your tongue. Hold for a few seconds and then relax. Do about ten sets of this exercise each day. Lower jaw exercises might also help you stop snoring. Move your jaw forward as far as you can and hold that position for ten seconds. Relax your jaw then hold it closed while trying to open it. Repeat this several times during the day. Playing a woodwind instrument is another easy stop snoring exercise that is fun as well.

General exercise can also help you stop snoring in another way because it can help you to lose weight. Obesity is a major cause of snoring because all of the excess fat puts pressure on your throat and creates an obstruction when you fall asleep. Exercise will not only help you lose weight and reduce your snoring, but it has other health benefits as well so there is no downside to giving it a try.
